Gavin Sampey, PhD

Scientist, BioAnalytics

Gavin is a member of the BioAnalytics team at Precision BioSciences, focused on characterizing CAR T cell drug products, as well as analyzing patient samples from clinical trials. He comes to Precision from his postdoc at the HIV Cure Center, a collaborative venture between UNC and GSK. During his PhD and postdoctoral work, Gavin worked on early drug discovery and development of HIV therapeutics and progressed candidate molecules from target identification in high throughput screening to proof of concept experiments in preclinical models. Prior to pursuing his PhD, Gavin worked on the development of cell culture and fermentation processes for the production of antibodies and other recombinant proteins, helping four different biotherapeutics achieve FDA approval. Gavin earned a BS in Biochemistry and a BS in Chemistry at Virginia Tech, a MS in Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD in Biosciences at George Mason University. When Gavin is not playing the part of a mad scientist, he enjoys exploring the Triangle area with his wife and two sons, vacationing with them in tropical locations, and going scuba diving.
